Position
I am Assistant Professor in Public Finance in the Department of Applied Economics at the University of Málaga, and I hold the ANECA accreditation as Associate Professor.
Research
- Fiscal policy and public debt. How fiscal consolidations change debt dynamics in the European Union, and what a primary-balance effort buys once output, interest costs and stock-flow adjustments are taken into account.
- Household financial decisions. Saving, financial education and, more recently, how health in later life relates to household wealth.
- Econometrics of policy evaluation. What event-study and local-projection estimators identify when governments adopt a policy in response to the outcomes it is meant to change.
A newer line looks at how artificial intelligence may change the tax base. I work in R and build my analyses as reproducible pipelines. Papers, projects and awards are on the Research page.

He received his PhD in Economics from the University of Cantabria. His research covers fiscal consolidations and public debt in the European Union, household financial decisions and the econometrics of policy evaluation, with a focus on event studies. His work has appeared in the Journal of Behavioral and Experimental Economics, Global Policy and Information Polity. He has taught at the University of Cantabria and Universidad Loyola Andalucía and worked as a statistician for the Government of Cantabria.
